6 Fall Date Ideas for People Who are Sick of Being Basic

I LOVE fall. It is by far my favorite season. I am suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to do activities besides sitting in front of my fan. The drop in temperature and humidity fills me with lust for life, and the desire to leave my couch and have an adventure with my lady. When you think of fall date ideas you immediately recall apple picking, a romantic getaway to some rustic cabin, going to a local fall festival, etc. In my opinion, these are pretty played out, not to mention expensive forms of entertainment. And let’s be real, it's all pretty basic. If you are looking for some new ideas for fall activities that won't bankrupt you, check out this list. These ideas are perfect when done with your partner, the person you are “just talking”   to, your besties, family members, or even the random strangers you find on   Meetup.

1.Thrift Shop Flannels

You don’t have to break the bank to get those cute Instagram pictures with your special someones. Go to Goodwill, Salvation Army or another secondhand favorite and pick out some “new to you”  fall flannels. You will look adorable, save money, and spend time together. That sounds like a win to me.

2. Name That Scent

Head to your local off-price department store (our favorite is Home Goods), and head to the candle aisle. Take turns covering the labels and having each other guess what ridiculous fall scent they are smelling. Think “Sparkling Pumpkin Latte Dream Spice” or “Golden Apple Caramel Dip Explosion”. Extra points for creative names. Plus you may even find one you like to bring home.

3. Take a Drive

The key to this one is not being in a hurry. Going by a gorgeous view? Stop and take it in. Oh, look an adorable farmers market! Pop by for some cider or corn on the cob. Go out of your way and take the back road with gorgeous foliage. As long as you have a full tank of gas and some time to spare, you are set. If you really want to get in the mood,  listen to some indie folk music. May we suggest the Lumineers or Fleet Foxes?

4. Kettle Corn & Movies

Nothing says fall like Kettlecorn. It is surprisingly easy to make and so delicious. Look up a recipe or use our favorite; insider tip: you can also use maple syrup! Pair it with your favorite Halloween movie and some ciders, and get cozy. Don’t forget to snuggle up with those fuzzy throws you can finally use again and enjoy a night in. Watch all four Halloweentown’s, we dare you.

5. The Great Apple Cooking Challenge

This is my partner’s favorite. When you inevitably go apple picking (as we all do) you are faced with a problem. What to do with all these apples. Sure, you can make a pie. But if you are feeling a little more adventurous (or a fan of Chopped!) do we have a date night for you. Here is your challenge: Use apples in every course. You can work together or make it a competition but either way you are going to have fun being creative and cooking together.

 6. Themed Carving

Do you carve the same pumpkin every year? Let’s shake things up, shall we? Invite some friends over and pick a theme. Some ideas are Lord of the Rings, Disney Characters, My Favorite Murder, and our personal favorite, Bob’s Burgers. Whatever you are into. Then everyone chooses something to carve that relates to the theme. Guaranteed fun, toasted pumpkin seeds, and squad goals

So there you have it! 6 Fall Date Ideas! Just remember the most important part of enjoying the fall is spending the time together. No matter what you do.
